It feels as if we are living in the age of distraction. Relentlessly busy, we move from one activity to the next. Sometimes we feel confused, lost and lacking a meaningful destination. We crave peace of mind and a life with less unpredictability.
Being a spiritual traveller does mean leaving our job, our family or retreating to an isolated mountain hut.
The path of a spiritual traveller is an inner journey of mind, using all our daily experiences to train our mind.
In this Buddhist retreat we explore and embrace the extraordinary opportunity we have right now to lead a life with meaning and to cut through our confusion.
We will meditate and contemplate on teachings on the preciousness of our life, our mortality and how our actions or ‘Karma’ is the cause of all our painful and pleasant experiences and feelings. Knowing this we can feel empowered to take control of our own destiny
We meditate on how to extract the essence of this life, seek refuge in the peace of enlightenment and realise the true causes of our pain and suffering.
We will discover how we can live lightly in this busy and unpredictable modern world whilst following an inner spiritual journey, a path to permanent inner peace and liberation.
Guiding the sessions will be Buddhist nun Gen Chitta, a student of Buddhist master Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, she can offer gentle guidance and the clear wisdom of ancient Buddhist practice in a way that’s suitable for everyone of any age, background or belief. Also guiding some sessions will be Ian McGlade, the teacher from Lamrim Kadampa Buddhist Centre in Derry Londonderry.
Ards Friary lies within 200 acres of grounds with access to beautiful beaches. Ards hosts some spectacular views. Its peace and serenity have meditative qualities, allowing you to wonder and explore. Ards Country park is next to the Friary and walks from the Friary, extend into it, allowing you to venture even further.
