7pm – 8pm | Thu 5th Feb 2026 | £10 | New Gate Theatre, Derry / Londonderry
In life, it is impossible for anyone to avoid mental and physical pain and suffering. From slight irritations and restlessness within our body and mind to the lived experience of chronic turmoil and torment. The reality is we cannot hide from pain, loss, sickness or death. It can’t be argued with.
Despite its inevitability, our normal response is to recoil from pain. We fear it and reject it.
Fearing pain is often our response as we don’t know how to deal with it.
Within Buddhism, there are many methods to manage and deal with pain. In fact, experienced practitioners welcome pain. They face it and discover meaning within it. Ultimately they transform it to develop deep spiritual insights and attainments, They use it to grow and become mentally stronger, not in spite of pain, but because of it.
Everyone is welcome. This event is suitable for everyone, Buddhist and Non Buddhist. No special clothes are required and seating is provided in chairs.
Kadam Bridget Heyes is the National Spiritual Director for Ireland and UK and has practiced Buddhist teachings for many years. Known for her humility and wisdom, she presents Buddhists teachings in a relatable and practical way. Her teachings are sincere, profound, and life changing.
